The Octane Meter is developed and manufactured at the Petroleum Chemisorption Institute of Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Science. This petroleum analyzer is recognized in the Russian Federation and identified in the public register (N16464-97) for is accuracy. It is widely used around the world to evaluation gasoline parameters such as the determination its octane number comparable to ASTM D 2699-86, ASTM D 2700-86 and cetane number of diesel fuel comparable to ASTM D 4737-03, ASTM D 613, EN ISO 5165.

The device operates by measuring the sample's dielectric properties and comparing the results to stored parameters in it's internal program of typical known chemical compounds widely used in fuel production. Extremely sensitive to changes in these dielectric properties, the Octane Meter is able to detect subtle differences in the chemical makeup of the fuel sample and therefore becomes valuable tool for determining the octane, cetane as well as many other parameters for typical gasoline, diesel fuel and other petroleum products.

The Octane Meter uses range from assisting fuel manufacturers in monitoring the blending of additives used in the gasoline and diesel fuel production, to individuals and organizations wishing to monitor petroleum products for quality as well as deterioration during extended storage.

Since different fuel blends react differently, all Shatox Octane Meters employ additional modes providing the ability to make corrections quickly and easily by the user when analyzing fuels the device is not familiar with. These user's corrected algorithms are stored in the analyzer's non-volatile memory and can be recalled at any time.

Shatox manufactures four different Octane Meter models, designed to be used in petroleum sampling that offer an affordable alternative to complex laboratory equipment such as the CFR engine. In addition to fuel diagnostics, two of the Octane Meters models also employ functions for electrical transformer oil measurements.

All models include the hand-held module that contains the processor, control keys and digital display. The sensor is a stainless-steel cup that includes an internal temperature sensor, which holds the test sample liquid.

All models except the SX-100M can also be controlled using a PC type interface and software (seen below), designed to be used by a Windows bases PC running Windows XP or 2000 operating systems. The software gives the ability to save test data to a Excel spreadsheet or TXT file as well as controlling all aspects of the device including firmware upgrades, calibration changes and unit enhancements. All models include an operating manual and carrying case.

Note: Current models of the Octanemeter are not compatible with Bio-fuels such as Bio-Diesel and ethanol fuel blends. We expect an upgrade to address these issues in the near future.

OPLCM is intended for crystallization temperature measurement of the jet-fuel, diesel fuel cloud-point and freezing temperature measurement, motor oil freezing temperature and dynamic viscosity measurement in the laboratory and field conditions.

OPLCM is a new generation instrument, and depending on modification can be used for fuel and oil quality control. Each model is unique in itself, and all methods of analysis and arrangement are patented. The common feature for all instrument modifications is cryostat with cooling down to minus 60C (diesel fuel and motor oil) and down to minus 70C during analysis of jet fuel. The instrument has LC display which shows the examination process in real time mode. The instrument's case is ergonomic and can resist any oil product or solvent.

Device Description:

The OPLCM is designed for the rapid analysis of diesel fuel, petroleum oils and jet fuel and is powered by a AC 220V source.

Low temperature characteristics of jet fuel can be determined by measuring "Crystallization Temperature". This is determined cooling the fuel sample paraffin's are formed and detected with the optical monitoring system.

"Temperature of Motor Oil Solidification" (freezing temperature) is determined by using special sensor that records the moment of sample transition from solid state into liquid. The process is to cool the sample until it solidifies then the device detects when it changes back into a liquid form.

Similar to jet fuel test above the "Cloud Point" temperature of diesel fuel can be determined by sampling the "Short-range Infrared Trans-illumination" of the fuel.

Dynamic viscosity is determined by rotation viscosimeter.

Test results are displayed on the an LCD display.

The built-in cryostat is made using Peltier elements and further cooled using plain water. The device does not use any toxic coolants or any other hazardous materials.

The OPLCM can be user re-calibrated to compensate for any temperature variation in the device and meets ISO 9001 requirements.
